The Chiropractors’ Act received the Royal Assent on July 5th 1994. The Act enabled the establishment of the General Chiropractic Council, (GCC) with accountability to parliament. All chiropractors have to be registered with the GCC to practice legally in the United Kingdom. The GCC is responsible for regulating and developing the profession and for laying down standards of proficiency for safe and competent practice, standards of education and training, and codes of professional conduct.
